The hares ear is a basic nymph pattern that the fish like and have always liked. So, it made sense to use the hares ear dubbing for a dry fly, the fish like this too! The natural dubbing helps to absorb floatant and repel water, making the fly a good floater for a longer period of time. Of course the parachute makes it easy to see.
