This Spruce moth is tied like an Elk Hair Caddis, its hackle and wing helps it float high and it looks like the flying and dancing moth as it hits the water. We get Spruce moths here in August, especially where there are lots of pine trees near the river. Sections of the Madison river starting at West Fork, the Gallatin river starting at Taylor’s fork to Big Sky, and Quake lake all see good numbers of Spruce moths.
