Introducing Airflo’s groundbreaking Technology with the SuperDri Xceed fly line!
The SuperDri technology has been developed for the serious floating line angler, featuring a friction reducing coating which lets the line glide through the rod rod rings and adds yards to your cast. The SuperDri’s coating gives you unparalleled floatation with the ability to repel water, dirt and surface scum better than any material in the history of fly lines.
Another new feature of the SuperDri range from Airflo is ‘Zone Technology’, a new concept that uses a low compression compound in the part of the line exposed to the most stress, ensuring the line doesn’t stick to the rod guides when hauling and shooting. This new line technology will minimize friction during the cast, helping with distance and extending the life of your floating line. Coupled with Airflo’s revolutionary ridge and power core, you will notice the difference from your very first cast.
The SuperDri Xceed has been designed to load today’s faster action fly rods. This slightly heavier weight forward head has a condensed taper optimized for casting into the wind and generating higher line speeds. This is the best floating line whether your fishing dries or subsurface. It’s a name with near legendary beginnings. A name whispered on the lips of guides and fly shop employees across the nation. The early prototypes were kept hush-hush. A few lines sent out here and there to get some feedback in the summer of 2012. Knowing we could count on our early testers for complete secrecy, soon everyone in the industry knew.
Airflo finally had a dog in the trout game. A 300 pound dog with big teeth and hairy nipples.
It’s been a long time coming.
As the year progressed we were faced with the realization that we had something big. We were tempted to rush it to the market, but decided to take our time. Develop the new machinery. Test the new coatings. Figure out what other features we could pull out of the new machines. And get a feel for just how damn awesome this stuff really was.
What is it?
Super-Dri is the first flyline to take advantage of a wave of new nano-engineered hydrophobic materials. The guys at Airflo like to think of it as super-teflon. I prefer to think of it as super-awesome. Originally Airflo designed the Super-Dri lines to take advantage of the water repulsion properties of the new material and make the line float higher. What they didn’t anticipate was the legion of other benefits. The amount of line you can pick up and mend is unreal. The lines don’t just repel water—they repel dirt and scum as well. The lines feel slick all day, even in the grimiest of water. And best of all, Super-Dri lines float even better than Pamela Anderson .
But Airflo didn’t stop there. Using the capabilities of their new machinery, Airflo added ZONE technology to the Super-Dri lines. The idea behind Zone is simple—supple lines rock out with their socks out and have many benefits, except when it comes to the haul zone. The suppler the line is, the more resistant it is to the double haul through the guides, especially when it gets warm outside. By changing the hardness of the coating in the Zone area, compression is reduced during the haul resulting in superior line speed and greater shoot-ability across a wide temperature range.
Wrap it up, Jarrod
When we first picked up the Airflo distribution in 2001, it was because Tim firmly believed that polyurethane was a better plastic for flylines than our competitors’ PVC lines. Super-Dri is the fruition of that belief; without the superior bonding ability of polyurethane Super-Dri wouldn’t be possible. Super-Dri is just the beginning, however–the first step in what will be a new era in flylines.
